CBT in Cumbria

CBT Therapy in Cumbria

Helping Hanz Therapies provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in Cumbria, supporting adults, children and young people with anxiety, low mood, and emotional wellbeing.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

At times, unhelpful thinking patterns can influence how we feel and how we respond to situations. CBT helps to identify these patterns and develop more balanced and helpful ways of thinking and acting.

CBT is a structured and goal-focused therapy. It is not just about talking — it involves learning and applying practical strategies that can support day-to-day wellbeing.

CBT needs you to be practicing things in between sessions (often called homework/ out of session practice) which might include things like thought diaries, experiments to test out your predictions or trying strategies and reporting back about your findings. It might be about trying new routines, re-engaging with things you used to enjoy or experimenting to find new joy in everyday life. We might create a step-by-step plan to move towards things that make you anxious and develop your resilience in doing hard things.

🧩 What to Expect

CBT is a collaborative process. Together, we will:

  • Explore how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked
  • Identify patterns that may be maintaining difficulties
  • Develop practical tools and coping strategies
  • Set small, achievable goals
  • Apply strategies between sessions to support real-life change

🤍 Moving Forward

CBT supports you to build skills, increase understanding, and make changes at a pace that feels manageable and sustainable.

🌱 A Practical and Supportive Approach

At Helping Hanz Therapies, CBT is combined with Occupational Therapy principles to ensure that the strategies we use are not only helpful in theory, but also support everyday functioning, routines, and overall wellbeing.

My Approach

I believe healing is a journey, much like riding a tandem bike. The therapist can help steer you in the right direction on the front seat but it is your journey and the destination is your choice. How quickly we get there depends on how hard you are prepared to peddle. The journey will be supported by my dedication to your success but we have to work in partnership with your goals at the heart of everything we do. This is why I offer a free 30 minute consultation for you to see if I am the right person for you- finding the right therapist is shown in the research to have a bigger impact on success, than the type of therapy done.

As a CBT therapist I use evidence-based models to support different diagnoses and these guide my support but I believe the model should fit the person not the person fit the model. This means I can work with your individual needs and work in a holistic way, combining my expertise in CBT & OT to support you for as long as you need.
